Dr. Diana Mejia, originally from the Dominican Republic, is a distinguished leader and advocate dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse. She moved to the United States in 1982, where she built a career of over 18 years serving the culturally diverse population of Orlando, Florida, particularly Hispanic women and their families.
As the CEO and Founder of Nuevo Sendero, Inc., Dr. Mejia, a domestic violence survivor, has been instrumental in providing advocacy, education, and resources to survivors. She holds a Doctorate in Ministries Leadership from New York Theological Seminary, a Master’s in Clinical and Pastoral Counseling from Revelation University, and a Bachelor’s in Theology & Biblical Studies. Additionally, she has obtained certifications in Non-Profit Management from UCF, Therapeutic Chaplain Counseling, and Case Management from AHCA Health Care Administration of Florida.
Her work includes the creation of the Hispanic Institute of Human Behavior, the Community Arts for Healing programs, and culturally specific intervention initiatives. She has led various workshops and conferences, including Keys of Freedom, Love Without Fear, and Restoring the Scar of a Secret, addressing critical issues of domestic and sexual violence.
Dr. Mejia has been honored with numerous awards, including a Proclamation from the City of Orlando (2014), the Health HERO award from the Orange County Health Department, the International Woman Leadership Merit Award from the Dominican Republic, and recognition from the U.S. Congress by Congressman Darren Soto (2020). She also founded the annual “Summit of Sexual Violence” and the “Lighting Orlando Purple”, uniting the community against sexual and domestic violence.
Her unwavering commitment to social change continues through faith-based initiatives, legislative advocacy, and survivor empowerment programs such as the Academia Latina, a 10-week self-sufficiency program for survivors. Dr. Mejia remains dedicated to fostering healing, awareness, and prevention within her community.
